The archive collection ”Have You Forgotten Us?” consists mainly of a slide show with narration by Lea Gleitman, who retells how she survived The Holocaust. The collection also includes the pictures that are part of the slide show as well as pictures from the concentration camp Auschwitz.
Lea Gleitman grew up with her family in a Jewish-Orthodox environment, surrounded by her large family. She was born in 1924 in Oświęcim, in southern Poland. But the idyllic city of Oświęcim was later called Auschwitz when Germany occupied Poland. Since 1991, Lea has been a member of the information group "Eyewitnesses of the Holocaust". She is out visiting schools in southern Sweden to inform about the Holocaust and tell about her experiences from the ghetto in Sosnowiec, the forced labor camp Gräben bei Striegau in eastern Germany and about the death march to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Felicia Malmström, photographer and artist in Malmö, contacted Lea to start a documentary collaboration, after listening to one of Lea's lectures at Malmö City Archives on January 27, Holocaust Memorial Day, in 2016. During the work, they became friends. Their collaboration resulted into a slide show, consisting portraits of Lea and historical images of her large family, who were murdered by the Nazis. The work also included photographs from Felicia's study visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp. The project was entitled "Have You Forgotten Us?" and was created for the purpose of continuing to spread the word and to keep Lea's story alive. The material was preserved at Malmö City Archives and the audio file can be listened to on Spotify and Soundcloud. The photographs and slide show with Lea's narrative voice were also made available on the teacher platform SO-rummet for teachers and students in Sweden. Felicia Malmström has a desire to keep Lea Gleitman's story alive and to spread the story to future generations. She urges that it is our duty as human beings, to learn from history, to never forget or let what happened be repeated.
Felicia Malmström has full ownership of the pictures in the archive collection. The photographer must be contacted if any pictures from the collection are to be used.
Part of the project is available on Felicia Malmströms website:
